Our
Organization
Rakhma provides special housing for the elderly who have
Alzheimerís disease and similar types of dementia. Our mission is to ensure
that our homes allow people with dementia to stay in the community within a real
home setting. Rakhma is an Aramaic word for ìunconditional loveî and
describes our philosophy of care. Our
setting nurtures a sense of belonging through ongoing activities, and we are
dedicated to preserving the dignity of the elderly person while attending to
each individualís daily needs. We follow a social
model for long-term care rather than a medical
model, and emphasize caring for the older person in the least restrictive
manner with unconditional love until the end of life. This year, Rakhma is
celebrating 21-years of service to the elderly with memory loss, and our
innovative memory loss program was the first of its kind in the Minneapolis/St.
Paul area.
At this time, we continue with the outstanding care and services that began
21-years ago. Rakhma now has three homes in twin cities communities that were
converted into settings where people with Alzheimerís disease and similar
types of dementia have a chance to live in a real home. The Rakhma Grace
home is located in Minnetonka (near Glen Lake), the Rakhma Peace
home is located in Minneapolis (near
50th & Lyndale), and the Rakhma Joy
home is located in St. Paul (in the Highland area).
